Tetradecan-1-ol is one of the pheromone components isolated from insects such as the tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta) and some species of the Carabidae family (ground beetles); it is often used as a selective attractant alone or mixed with other fatty acid derivative pheromone components to monitor the population dynamics of corresponding pests in agriculture and forestry, which can effectively improve the trapping specificity for target pests and assist in precise prevention and control to reduce the overuse of chemical pesticides.
