(Z,E)-8,10-Dodecadien-1-ol is a core female pheromone component isolated and identified from female adults of the gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar); in insect pheromone applications, it is mainly used for population monitoring and green pest control of gypsy moths. Often used as a key attractive active ingredient to prepare single-component trap lures or those mixed with other trace pheromone analogs, it can efficiently and highly selectively capture male moths when deployed in habitats like forests and orchards—not only enabling accurate grasp of the gypsy moth’s population dynamics and diffusion trends, but also reducing population size by interfering with their mating behavior or mass-trapping male moths, thus decreasing the use of chemical pesticides.
