Application

Hexadecan-1-ol is an identified pheromone component isolated from various agricultural and forestry pests such as the rice leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis) and the maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais). It is often used as an auxiliary component mixed with other specific pheromones (e.g., unsaturated fatty acid esters) for the population monitoring and green control of these pests. In paddy fields or grain depots, traps using this mixed attractant can capture 8-15 male target pests per day on average; compared with conventional light trapping, the by-catch rate of non-target organisms is reduced by more than 40%, improving the accuracy and ecological safety of pest control.
