For example, it has been isolated from the female sex pheromone of certain moth species (Lepidoptera) and is involved in attracting male counterparts for mating. This compound is often used in pest management strategies, either alone or in combination with other semiochemicals, to develop species-specific attractants. In field trials, traps baited with (E)-2-octadecenal have demonstrated effective capture rates for target insects, such as stored-product pests, with monitoring precision significantly improved compared to traditional methods.
