(R,Z)-5-(1-decanyl)dihydrofuran-2(3H)-one serves as the core component of male aggregation pheromones for Diptera pests such as the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata), synthesized and released by males to attract both male and female individuals of the same species to congregate and mate. Currently, it has been developed into an efficient lure through stereoselective synthesis techniques, widely used in monitoring and trapping systems for fruit fly pests in orchards, significantly reducing fruit damage by disrupting population aggregation behaviour, and has become a landmark pheromone technology for the integrated management of fruit flies in tropical and subtropical fruit producing areas.
